Think that Oktoberfest is just for those in Germany? Think again.
On September 7, 2018, the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium are teaming up with multiple breweries to bring you ZooBrew: Oktoberfest. Leave the kids at home with the babysitter; grab a ride from either Uber or Lyft, and head on over for a fun night of friends and brews.
Doors open at 6 PM and you must be 21+ to enter. Enjoy an adults-only night out at the zoo. Come out and sample over 45 craft beer selections, including some from Pittsburgh’s own Church Brew Works, and Pittsburgh Brewing Company. If you love the idea of hanging out with great friends and really cool wildlife, but are not really interested in the beer, there are plenty of hard cider and wine options available as well.
You obviously cannot drink on an empty stomach, so the zoo will also be providing some delicious bites, including their fried mac and cheese bites, a roasted squash and beet salad with kale, and churro sundaes with vanilla ice cream and a salted caramel sauce, just to name a few. If you are worried about staying away from gluten, one of the greatest features of this event is that it is offering a ton of gluten free options. There are gluten free hard ciders and coffees from 1911, Rekorderlig, MackJac, and Black Eye Natural Cold Brew. They also offer many gluten free food options as well, including, dill pickle chips, a pulled chicken with peach BBQ sauce, and a pulled pork with a pepper slaw just to name a few.
As if this night did not sound amazing enough, there will also be entertainment. There will be about three DJs throughout the zoo, and I have also heard that a few of our zoo friends will be making an appearance. Learn about the newest member to our zoo, Jahari, the pygmy hippo, or about our famous Pittsburgh (actual) penguins. Hear about all of the furry, and scaly, creatures that make the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium run daily.
If you love beer, food, a good time, and our zoo friends this is definitely the event to check out in Pittsburgh this weekend. Tickets are $63 each and they include all of your beer samples and food for the night. Remember that this event is 21+, so please leave the kids at home. The event is also rain or shine and no refunds will be given. All proceeds from the event go back to the zoo and help our zoo expand even more than it has in the past year. ZooBrew: Oktoberfest, but in Pittsburgh will be a really fun night, and I hope to see you there neighbor! It’s super easy to get to from Heinz Lofts!
